Royal Selangor Visitor Centre
Malaysia is home to the world’s finest pewter and Royal Selangor is its most well known name. Royal Selangor was established in Malaysia in 1885 by founder Yong Koon. With 40 stores throughout Malaysia, Royal Selangor currently exports to more than 20 countries on five continents, with Royal Selangor retail stores located in London, Toronto, Melbourne, Tokyo, Bangkok, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore, via a distribution network from its home base Royal Selangor Visitor Centre Since its inauguration in March 2004, the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre has since won the Malaysian Tourism Best Tourist Attraction Award 2004 in the category of attraction with national identity or heritage, as well as the ASEAN Tourism Association Awards 2005 for Excellence as Best ASEAN New Tourist Attraction. Today it receives hundreds of domestic and international visitors daily. With a built-up area of 40,000 square feet, the new Visitor Centre is located at the Royal Selangor headquarters and factory in Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur. First conceptualised in 1999, the Visitor Centre was designed and built by team consisting of architects and consultants from both Malaysia and abroad. A dramatic glass-clad foyer set within scenic lush landscaping greets visitors upon arrival along with Royal Selangor's Giant Tankard; the world’s largest as certified by Guinness World Records. The tankard alone provides one of many perfect photo opportunities here at the Centre, in which you have the option of featuring the interesting architecture of glass and steel or the vast reflecting pool as a backdrop. The Visitor Centre comprises three main sections; The Gallery, Factory Tour and Retail Store. Admission to the Visitor Centre is free, and complimentary guided tours are provided. Pewtersmithing workshops are also available in the Visitor Centre. The Royal Selangor Visitor Centre is open from 9.00am to 5.00pm every day, including weekends and public holidays, and is a must-see destination for all. An ideal stop for local and international travellers, incentive and special interests groups, school children and families alike.
