La Palma: Return Bus Transfer to Roque de los Muchachos

La Palma: Return Bus Transfer to Roque de los Muchachos

The Roque de los Muchachos is located at the highest point of the island of La Palma at 2,426 meters high. An incredible place where nature and astronomy go hand in hand as it is also home to the Roque de Los Muchachos Astrophysical Observatory (ORM), one of the most important sets of telescopes in the world. With our transfer, we take you to the Roque de los Muchachos itself, where you have a privileged view of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, a huge erosive caldera about 1,500 meters deep covered with pine forests, crossed by convoluted ravines. This is a must-see for all those who visit the island. Its panoramic views and the lush picturesque vegetation of the place, mainly broom and lambswool, create a picture that is difficult to forget, especially during the flowering period. In addition, normally from there, you can see the other neighboring islands on the horizon: Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro. Once our transfer leaves you at the highest point of the island, you can enjoy several hiking trails. We recommend the option of walking along the edge of La Caldera along the GR 131 enjoying the incredible views above the clouds. The contrast between telescopes and nature does not go unnoticed easily. With this hiking option, you can start at the Roque de Los Muchachos viewpoint, walk past several of the Telescopes, enjoy the views from the Pico de la Fuente Nueva, or see along the way the cedars, lards and pansies summit are some of the few survivors who have managed to prevail here to the extreme hostility of the environment. A little further on, we find the so-called Roberto's Wall, which legend attributes to the hand of the devil. And at the Mirador de Los Andenes, where the road is within reach again, after about an hour and a half, the feeling of floating in the void is almost unreal. If you want to continue advancing on the trail, the small ascents and descents are continuous in this section until you ascend to Pico de La Cruz, which is about 5 kilometers from the beginning (about two hours approx.). And even if you are a more expert walker, reach the Pico de La Nieve (2,232 m) (10 km and 4 hours approx.). Keep in mind that you have to deviate a few meters to reach its top. Later, you will have to go back to go down to the intersection of the main road, where our transfer will be waiting for you at the indicated time. The return time depends of the meeting point : 14:00h From el Roque de Los Muchachos 14:10h From Los Andenes 14:15h From Pico de La Cruz

La Palma: Guided trekking tour to volcanoes south

La Palma: Guided trekking tour to volcanoes south

One of the most popular routes on La Palma due to its beauty and rich landscape is, without a doubt, the Volcanoes Route. A spectacular volcanic route of about 17 km where we can contemplate the recent geological history of the island. The Ruta de los Volcanes is the best way to discover the most volcanic part of the island, enjoying landscapes that seem like science fiction, even reminiscent of a virtual walk on the planet Mars. You can also enjoy incredible panoramic views of both sides of La Palma and, depending on the day, you may even be able to see some of the other three islands in the province: Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro. The combination of the green of the pine forest with the different shades of the volcanic terrain will not go unnoticed, it is well worth it. During the tour of the Volcanoes Route, our guide will tell you about the history of volcanism on the island through a landscape of lava, ashes, calderas and volcanic eruptions that intermingle with the characteristic green of the Canary Island pine as you cross the youngest area of the island, formed by several volcanoes, which forms part of the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park. This is a tough route, so you will need to be in good physical condition to complete the 17 kilometres from the Refugio de El Pilar refuge to Los Canarios (Fuencaliente), the southernmost municipality on the island. The Refugio El Pilar is the starting point for this route, which takes you along the GR-131 trail, which goes uphill from the start to skirt the Pico Birigoyo peak. From this point you can see the Aridane Valley, the Caldera de Taburiente and in the background the Roque de Los Muchachos, the highest point on the island of La Palma. We continue along the path and between Canary Island pines, we can also see the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte. We continue climbing to reach the crater of Hoyo Negro, from where we can also see, if the day is clear, the other neighbouring islands, as well as other parts of the island such as S/C de La Palma or Los Cancajos. In this area, depending on the day, we can enjoy a walk through the clouds, thanks to the blanket that forms as if it were a white sea. Hoyo Negro marks the beginning of the many craters that we will find along this magical Route of the Volcanoes on the island of La Palma. After reaching Las Deseadas, the highest point of the route, a descent begins that will not be easy. We will reach the picturesque Volcán de Martín, one of the last craters we will see before reaching the final point of our guided tour, which is characterised by an impressive reddish cone that, from afar, attracts a lot of attention. Afterwards, we will descend to Los Canarios (Fuencaliente), where our transfer back to our starting point will be waiting for us. Of course, in your memory and in your camera you will take with you some pictures that you will never forget.

A very interesting tour of the island, especially thanks to guide Rosie. We were lucky to have a tour that was only in German, without having to translate into several languages. The roads were a real adventure in the big bus, and it would be advisable to have some ghost bags handy 🙈. A smaller bus would have made the trip more pleasant and I'm actually an adrenaline junkie. A long but worthwhile trip if the weather plays along.

The view from the Roque de los Muchachos is great. We saw lots of stars. Stefanie explained the constellations to us and we were thrilled with her way of telling the story. We saw stars through a telescope for the first time. The journey there and back went very well and we felt very safe despite the many steep bends thanks to the very careful bus driver. We can recommend the trip.

A wonderful Tour ! Breathtaking landscapes, excellent guide - perfectly trilingual - and each and every stop is quite interesting, from a point-of-view or another : scientific or cultural.

Very good, but the journey there and back (about half the time by bus, but this is a great route from Santa Cruz) is a bit long

Beautiful views and a deep view into space. It was a wonderful experience N
