Travel back in time to the days of the Roman Empire on a 3-hour guided tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. See the ruins of temples and the vast palaces built for the emperors, and learn about the bloodlust of the gladiatorial contests.
What to Expect
Discover some of the most impressive monuments of Ancient Rome on a guided tour of the Roman Forum, Colosseum, and Palatine Hill, and listen in awe as the lives of emperors, gladiators, and everyday citizens of the Roman Republic are brought to life.
Start at the Flavian Amphitheater, better known as the “Colosseum” and the biggest amphitheater in the world. Estimates put the Colosseum’s capacity at more than 55,000 spectators, and entering the site today will take you back to the glory days of the Roman Empire. Hear about the battles between gladiators and wild beasts, such as tigers. Listen to the dramas of classical mythology, and get a souvenir photo of a gladiator dressed in traditional clothing.
Then, discover the hidden secrets of the Romans of Ancient Rome in an area close to Piazza Navona. Just beyond the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland) lie the ruins of the Roman Forum. The Romans used the word “Forum” for a central square of the urban settlement, where the administrative, judicial, commercial, and religious activities of the city were conducted.
See the temples and courts of the comitiums (political assemblies), where people would gather to watch the triumphant processions of the Roman emperors and their armies.
Next, go to Palatine Hill, the centermost of the “7 Hills of Rome.” Situated between the Velabrum and Roman Forum, it is one of the oldest and most inhabited parts of the city. Hear the story of Romulus, the legendary founder of Rome, who chose the Palatine Hill as the site of his new city. See the villas of former cardinals, such as Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, who created the world’s 1st “botanical garden” after he acquired a part of the Palatine Hill in 1550.
