Full description
After meeting your tour guide, explore Palatine Hill, the site of an older settlement from the 9th century BC. Enjoy an impressive view of the Circus Maximus and the valley of the Roman Forum. Learn about the legend of Romulus and Remus, the abandoned brothers raised by a wolf who fought each other for power and control. Next, visit the Roman Forum, one of the most important archaeological areas in the world. The site is home to ancient Rome's most evocative ruins, including the Temple of Julius Caesar, the Arch of Titus, and the Basilica of Maxentius. Finally, admire the Roman Forum's Sacred Way, the triumphal road where the Centurions of Caesar marched after their return from countless battles and conquests.

Did not really want a guide, just wanted to wonder around and explore. But this was worth it just for the skip the line ticket. That said we discovered on exiting there was another entrance which was much less used, and if we had know about it may have used that instead. The entrance is next to the trojan column.

The guide, Anton was very informative and add-libbed a lot making for an enjoyable visit. Our 9 year old son also found the drama created by the guide entertaining and captivating. One did need to imagine what was there given that much of it has been long since removed and the guide portrayed this well. The earpieces also worked well.

I would definitely recommend this activity as the information was fantastic, and we had a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. Without this tour I would never have thought to start a Forum tour on the Palatine Hill, but starting there was perfect as you go right back to the very origins of Rome before proceeding through history, and looking down over the Forum area to see the archaeological evolution. I felt the tour gave excellent value for money; for a moderate premium over the general entry price you get so much information.
