Leaving the city you’ll drive by the ruins of the Baths of Caracalla before joining the Appian Way by the Domine Quo Vadis Chapel. You’ll follow the Road of the Lakes through the Colli Albani or Alban Hills, which is one of the hilly areas of volcanic origin that characterize the outskirts of Rome.
See Castel Gandolfo on the shores of a volcanic lake, where the Pope enjoys the summer months. Nearby Rocca di Papa and Grottaferrata are known for their gastronomic delicacies, including the traditional porchetta.
