Cycle along the banks of the River Tiber on a private 3-hour bike tour of Rome, and discover the history of the bridges, including the Ponte Sublicio and Bridge of Holy Angels in front of the Castel Sant'Angelo. Learn the history of the Castel, and more.
What to Expect
Escape the traffic of central Rome on a delightful 3-hour bike tour along the cycle paths of the River Tiber, and see the “Eternal City” from a different perspective.
Start at the Ponte Sublicio, and learn how it took its name from the wood used to build it. Continue past tiny Tiber Island (Isola Tiberina), and learn how it has been a place of healing since ancient times. Even today, it’s home to the Fatebenefratelli Hospital, one of the most important hospitals in Rome.
Ride under one of the 2 bridges that connect the island to the main land. The Ponte Cestio leads to the historic Trastevere district, while the Ponte Fabricio is Rome's oldest bridge, and connects Tiber Island to Capitoline Hill.
Next, go to the Castel Sant'Angelo. Built in Roman times by Emperor Adriano as his personal mausoleum, it was later used as a fortress in the Middle Ages to defend Rome against attack. Your guide will explain the history of the Castel, and its numerous uses in the following centuries.
