Enjoy a day of sightseeing on a shore excursion that takes you on a personalized tour of the island of Roatan. You’ll be met at the port and take a drive through Garifuna town and a water taxi through the village of Oak Ridge, built over the water.
What to Expect
Head off on a tour of the sites of Roatan and learn about the island’s history. Visit Coxen Hole, the capital city, and drive to French Harbor, the largest fishing town on Roatan and the location of some of the best seafood restaurants.
Your tour guide is Henry Bennett, owner of Roatan Henry Tours, who is a native of Roatan, Honduras. He is a supporter of education on Roatan and donates 5 per cent from the price of each tour to help with school supplies. If you’re interested, you can stop by a school during the tour.
One of the most interesting sites on the east side of the island is the Iguana Farm. It’s home to at least 3,000 iguanas, as well as monkeys, tarpon fish, turtles, lobsters, conch, and a lot more marine life (entrance fee of USD 8.00 not included). As the ride continues, you’ll make a stop in the middle of the island, where you’ll take in views of both sides of the island at the same time.
Take a drive through Garifuna town to see local life and hear about the traditions and culture. Next, you’ll head to Oak Ridge and enjoy a boat ride through the village, which is built over the water.
Your guide will be with you for the entire day. If you’d like to stop at a beach or take some time to shop, just let him know.
The price of this tour is USD 60.00 per person, with USD 35.00 payable when booking and USD 25.00 payable on site when you take the sightseeing boat tour.
