What to Expect
Start the tour from your hotel lobby with a pick-up and head straight to the charming neighborhood of Urca to the cable car station for Sugarloaf, a peak situated at the mouth of Rio's Bay on a peninsula that sticks out onto the Atlantic Ocean. Rising 396 meters (1,299 feet) above the harbor, its name is said to refer to its resemblance of a traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar. It is known worldwide for its cableway and panoramic views of the city. The cable car itself dates from 1912 - the third constructed in the world. Visitors can observe rock climbers on Sugarloaf and the other two mountains in the area, Babylon and Urca hills. Together, they form one of the largest urban climbing areas in the world with more than 270 routes, between 1 and 10 pitches long. It's a perfect spot to better understand all of Rio's history, starting from 1502 as a colony of Portugal, and why the city was the capital of the country for almost 200 years.

After enjoying the magnificent views from Sugarloaf, visit the gigantic stage of Maracanã football and the Sambodromo, the catwalk parade of Samba Schools. Back in the historic center of the city, witness the history of the centuries such as the golden Baroque churches (from mid-16th to mid-17th century), the Opera House and Municipal Theater, and the colorful alleys with buildings from the early 20th century. Your first stop will be at the Metropolitan Cathedral and still in the bohemian neighborhood of Lapa, you will see the Arcos da Lapa and the stairs of Seleron built with over 2000 titles collected from over 130 countries. The sights will always be accompanied with explanations from your tour guide.
