Overview
The Garganta do Ceu hiking tour is the option to fully know Pedra da Gavea. The cave reveals one of the most stunning views in Rio de Janeiro. Specialist guide and climbing equipment included for the tour.
What to Expect
Garganta do Ceu hike begins at the same starting point as Pedra da Gávea traditional hike. Though it is shorter, this hike is considered more difficult for being steeper and for demanding good orienteering in the Atlantic Rainforest. The forest is dense until reaching the Garganta do Ceu cave, that reveals one of the most beautiful views of the city of Rio de Janeiro. After the break for photos, there will be several steep obstacles and a basic rock climbing with the aid of steel cables to overcome, then you take the final trail to the summit of Pedra da Gávea. The guide will assist the group during the climb and use all the security techniques and procedures required. Climbing equipment is included in the tour. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a masterful view of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Pedra da Gavea is the biggest block of solid rock by the sea in the world and at the top of its 842 meters, you can see the main mountains of the city of Rio de Janeiro, as well as Guanabara Bay, Ipanema, Leblon, São Conrado, Barra Tijuca and the Serra dos Orgaos Region. The way back is along the trail of Pedra da Gavea traditional, via Carrasqueira, using a similar technique to rappel, but who controls the equipment and the descent is the guide, offering more comfort and safety. You just need to relax, enjoy and take lots of photos.

This hiking tour takes place inside the C sector of Tijuca National Park, which means that you are within Rio de Janeiro Atlantic Rainforest and that there are great possibilities to find wild animals during the hike. Let's remember that the climate is hot and humid, making the Pedra da Gavea hike an excellent exercise.
