Hike to the top of Dois Irmãos Hill and explore the neighborhood of Vidigal in a 6-hour tour in Rio de Janeiro. Enjoy the mountain air, surrounding forest, and the view from the top. Then absorb and learn about the culture in the Vidigal neighborhood.
What to Expect
Explore a unique part of Rio de Janeiro on a day tour that takes you to the top of Dois Irmãos and later exposes you to life in the Vidigal favela (a Brazilian shanty town).
The hike to Dois Irmãos Hill is certainly one of the most interesting in Rio, not only because the hill is a formidable landmark on the right side of the trendy Ipanema and Leblon beaches, but also because of the social aspect of its surroundings. The trail starts on the top of the Vidigal favela, which you will reach by van.
After a moderate hike of approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, you will reach the summit of the highest mountain, standing at 1,750 feet (533 meters). It is the perfect viewpoint for taking in the contrast of various bordering neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro, and also boasts a picturesque view down on the Tijuca Forest as it mixes with the city.
On the way back, walk down into Vidigal. This favela is a slum, surrounded on either side by the affluent neighborhoods of Leblon and São Conrado. As you walk the streets, you will get a feel for how life here varies from the more touristic areas of Rio.
