Your personal guide will meet you at your hotel (central areas of Rio) and you will take a taxi to the train station for Christ to catch the historic clogwheel train to the summit. Gaze in awe at the world’s most famous Art Deco statue of Christ, and soak up the spectacular views of the bays and beaches of Rio.
Then, head into the center of the city and go to Praça XV square where the Imperial Palace and the church of Carmelites is situated, some of the most historical buildings of the city, the Rococo woodwork of the interior of the church that has recently been restaured is covered in gold. Pause for lunch in the historic center, then continue on foot through some of the commercial areas to Cinelândia Square, the Municipal Theatre, and Museum of Arts.
Discover the upscale neighborhood of Lapa, where Rio’s hippest bars and clubs are to be found. Admire the Carioca Aqueduct (Lapa Arches) and the Escadaria Selarón stairs painted by Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón.
Finally, travel by taxi to the bottom of Sugar Loaf Mountain, where you will catch the cable car to the observation point and watch the sunset.
