Here, from June -September in a "paradise like" natural park, you will see thousands of butterflies that come and attach themselves to the pine trees to feed off the sap and to mate . Enjoy the lush coolness even on the hottest days in this oasis of abundant flowing waters.
There is a well kept, safe, wooden walkway that winds back and forth up the hill following the streams/waterfalls. Your walk culminates at the beautiful Byzantine Monastery of the Virgin of Kalopetra, (built in 1784 on top of the ruins of the Temple of Athena from the 3rd century BC).
Our excellent vantage point here will also allow you to enjoy a great panoramic view of the island below. You will then be met by your driver/vehicle to continue your half-day tour (for those not wanting to walk up to the top, you may be driven to meet the others).
From there, we'll continue with a panoramic drive of city highlights, starting over the Monte Smith Hill, which offers a magnificent feel and view of the Aegean Sea and Rhodes .Pass along the ancient Rhodes Acropolis, which was dedicated to Zeus Polieus, Athena Polieus and Pythian Apollo. Four columns of this Acropolis have been painstakingly reconstructed, letting you enjoy some of the structures former glory.
The drive will also pass by the 'restored' 2nd century Ancient Sports Stadium and Theatre and the D'Amboise Gate of the Medieval City, where you will disembark and continue on foot to visit the Grand Masters Palace.
Built in the 1300's by the Knights of St John, demolished in the 1800's, and restored by the Italians during the 1939 occupation, this is the most imposing building of the whole medieval Rhodes.
Finally, enjoy a walk down the "Avenue of the Knights" an impressive example of Medieval architecture that has remained unchanged for 500 years and possesses a great deal of Gothic influence. Try to count how many emblems and coats-of-arms you can find above the doors!
