Head into the remote paradise of Iceland’s Þórsmörk National Park on this guided tour from Reykjavik. Surrounded by glaciers and mountains, this nature tour takes you into the most amazing scenery Iceland has to offer.
What to Expect
Only 95 miles (150 km) from Reykjavik, the Þórsmörk National Park will leave you spellbound with its untouched beauty and majestic views.
The tour begins in Reykjavik and then we drive south over the mountain heath Hellisheiði towards the town Selfoss. A little further south and we reach the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
From there our journey heads inland to the main attraction, Þórsmörk, known in English as Thor’s Woodland.
This nature reserve is shielded on three sides by glaciers and mountains. This shelters the valley and leads to a warmer climate than the rest of Southern Iceland. As a result the valley is full of green vegetation – moss, ferns and birchwood. The river Krossá winds between the mountains, full of glacial ice melt.
There are hiking options to suit every ability, with time to hike for about an hour, as well as time to enjoy your lunch, which you can either bring with you or buy at our stop in Hvolsvollur.
On our way to back to Reykjavik we will stop at the rugged gorge Stakkholtsgjá. Walking through the massive rocks you will come to another beautiful waterfall that has carved itself through the sandstone.
This tour is truly unforgettable and is the ideal way to see and be a part of some of Iceland’s most amazing scenery.
