Full description
See freshly formed black lava formations up close on a 4-hour tour to Fagradalsfjall Volcano, which erupted in March 2021. Walk in the geologically active region and marvel at the remnants of the first eruption of the peninsula of Reykjanes for 800 years. Admire the recent lava flow, which has reached lower ground after slowly spreading across hills and valleys, making it easily accessible by foot. You will likely be able to see the fresh lava, some of it still molten and glowing red, while the rest of it will have cooled down and turned to black rock. Feel the heat coming off the rocks and smell the burning moss beneath the ground. Take a moment to marvel at the youngest rock formations you'll ever see, as it's just emerged from the Earth's mantle.

Nice relaxing trip! Although the lava wasn’t flowing anymore, it was still exciting to see the gas/steam coming out of earth and feel the heat. We were also able to see a spring on our way back to the city. There was not too much walking. So it should be a good choice for the very end of the whole journey. Professional driver and guide as well ;)

It’s been fantastic! The image of the erupting volcano will stay with me for the rest of my life. From the parking lot, after a 3 minutes walk, if you know the trick you can spot the top of the volcano and see if it’s active. Then you can walk down the road for about 10 minutes to the lava field. Another 15-20 minutes of hike up the hill on the right hand side, relatively easy to access, you see the scenery opening up on the left hand side and it’s just heaven... seeing the birth of a mountain. This is a new tour, that’s why it doesn’t have many reviews. But I think it’s a good idea to propose an express volcano tour starting in the afternoon. Our guide was very kind and stayed near the slowest persons in the group, allowing the fastest ones to go ahead the road and explore on their own a little further. Thanks for a (literally) amazing experience!

We had a great afternoon. The admirable guide we have seen videos to understand the rash. He had a lot of humor this Tuesday, December 7. Thank you very much for we showed the lava up close.
