  • Day Trip to Santorini by Bus and Boat from Chania

    8. Day Trip to Santorini by Bus and Boat from Chania

Board the luxury high-speed catamaran for the 2.5-hour trip to Santorini. Enjoy an island tour by air-conditioned bus and hear informative commentary about the history of one of Greece's most romantic islands. Travel to the village of Oia at the northernmost tip of the island. The village offers magnificent views of the blue and white houses scattered on the hillside. Continue to Fira, where you'll have free time to explore the island's capital. Browse the shops or enjoy a drink at a bar with stunning views of the volcano. Swim from a black sand beach at Perissa or Perivolos. Depart for Crete at 05:45 PM, where the 13-hour trip ends in the port of Rethymno.

It was a little confusing in the beginning. We were picked up on the bus and just dropped at the port with zero explanation on what to do and where to go. We were all herded to a massive line and had to figure out what to do next. Once we were on board, about half way into the boat ride they announced what the options were when you arrived in Santorini. It’s a rushed day to see Santorini and you don’t have a lot of time but it works if you just want a quick trip to experience the island.

  • Self-Drive Jeep Safari to South Coast, Palm Beach & Canyons

    9. Self-Drive Jeep Safari to South Coast, Palm Beach & Canyons

Explore the island of Crete in a self-drive off-road vehicle. This Jeep Safari Tour is ideal for all age groups and it is a superb way of getting to know the magical island of Crete. Spend the full day in an open-top jeep and take in unobstructed views of valleys, mountains and more. Experience the excitement of traveling off the beaten track and into the unique landscapes of Crete. Your professional safari leader will guide you throughout the day, leading you to places that even local people haven't seen. A stop for swimming is part of the program. You’ll also be served a typical Cretan lunch and enjoy sampling a selection of local specialties.

The guide was on time to pick us up. The jeep was clean and well maintained. While traveling the beautiful countryside, the guide provided background on any historical sites along with answers to any of our questions. The views were breathtaking and we were allowed to stop and take pictures to remember this once in a lifetime experience. We were also given suggestions on places to eat and visit that only a local would know. You can tell that Discovery Safari is the original provider of tours and has been doing excursions for years. I would recommend this trip to someone who wants a unique and custom experience of Rethymno.

  • Georgioupolis: Full-Day Trip to Elafonisi Island

    10. Georgioupolis: Full-Day Trip to Elafonisi Island

On this full-day trip, you’ll travel from Georgioupolis to the southwest corner of Crete and spend a relaxing day on the pink beaches of the small island of Elafonisi.  During the 3-hour drive to the island, you can sit back and relax, admiring the beauty of the lush green landscapes, traditional villages, and a small church built inside a cave along the way. After taking a short break to stop for a drink, you’ll reach your destination, Elafonisi,  a picturesque bathing paradise with an island that can be easily reached by foot. The water on the island is shallow, clear and gleams with beautiful shades of blue and green. You’ll have plenty of time to unwind on the beach and to purchase snacks and drinks on the island before returning to Georgioupolis in the evening.

It was a very nice trip. Claudia, the guide, was very nice and informative. The time allotted at the beach (3,5-4 hrs) was a perfect amount of time at the beach and the drive to the beach were beautiful. The only bad thing of the entire trip was the amount of people on the bus who repeatedly took their masks off no matter how many times they were asked to put them back on.
