  • From Rethymno/Chania: Imbros Gorge Hike

    7. From Rethymno/Chania: Imbros Gorge Hike

Discover the Imbros Gorge, which runs parallel to the more famous Samaria Gorge. Although the Imbros Gorge is smaller, many people prefer to cross here because it offers a very different hiking experience than the Samaria Gorge. Of the 11 kilometers, 8.5 kilometers are suitable for hiking. Discover the exquisite beauty of nature in this narrow passage and learn about the stunning rock formations.  According to legend, the name Imbros was given to the village, and subsequently the gorge, because two Greek brothers chose to live here after they were banished from Imbros Island when it was connected to Turkey. For many years, the Imbros Gorge served as part of the trail that connected the city of Chania to the Hora Sfakion village. It is notable that during World War II, after the Battle of Crete was lost by Greece and her allies, many thousands of British soldiers passed through the Imbro...

Everything was organised very well. We were picked up from near where we stayed and driven to the start of the gorge. Had to buy our own tickets. Make sure you have cash before you leave because the ticket office only accepts cash and there's no ATM anywhere there. Also make sure you have water because, unlike Samaria gorge, there is no water anywhere inside. You can wait at a tavern on the other side for your bus which will take you to the sea. We only had about an hour to get to the beach, swim, change and come back but it was enough. The bus then took us all home. Great experience!

Snap some photos of Fortezza Castle, the Venetian Port, and the city of Rethymno lit up in the twilight. Sip on a beer or a refreshing soft drink with your partner, family, or friends for a perfect and relaxing end to the day.

I can't fault this trio at all. The only thing I would say is to get there early on the day and that way your first on the boat and will get a much better seat. The sunset is stunning and the cruise also takes you into the old harbour which is beautiful at night with all the cafes and restaurants lit up. Highly recommend this trip

The trip was great, especially for people who want to experience other face of Crete, not so turistic and crowded. If you like moutains and small villages, great views and wild animals, this trip is for you! :)

Very well organised trip - the pick-up point was very close to our camping, the whole day was well planned with the bus rides, hike, ship transfers.
