Oozing with life and culture, the Reeperbahn is Hamburg's "Kiez" and red light district, but that doesn't mean anything goes. Is it safe? The police station in the center says so, but you should still abide by a few rules to avoid spoiling a good time!
Despite the police presence, skilled pickpockets are still a problem. Keep your cash and wallet separate and leave valuables at the hotel!
The Reeperbahn's music scene has been growing steadily since the Beatles played here when they were still a 5-piece! The Reeperbahn music festival takes place every September.
The Reeperbahn has some of the liveliest clubs and bars in Hamburg. Enjoy them, but don't be stupid. Neither the bouncers nor the police suffer fools gladly!
...Unless you're a very heavy sleeper (it's loud!) or don't plan on seeing much else in Hamburg. If the Reeperbahn isn't too much for you, it may well be too absorbing!
Obvious, right? But it's worth taking the opportunity to mention that most of Hamburg is extremely family-friendly with plenty to entertain children!
The Reeperbahn is a street in Hamburg's St. Pauli area between S-Bahn station Hamburg Reeperbahn and U-Bahn station St. Pauli. The whole district is famous for its nightlife on the north bank of the Norderelbe, where the Elbe river splits in two.
The Reeperbahn is worth seeing at least twice: by day as a bustling shopping street, and after dark as the beating pulse of Hamburg's nightlife!

What People Are Saying About Reeperbahn
We booked the English Tour and we ended up having a private tour for 2 people. The guide Katja rang half an hour before the tour to double check that we were coming and we were able to find the meeting point. Not something that other tour guide company do so often! Our guide Katja was excellent, very informative and ready to give more information when asked. She did a very interesting tour and also she was really discreet and not obvious at all in one contest where it would have been easy to do so. She knows everything about the place and being local she also will tell you the anecdotes about the city of Hamburg. Her English is perfect and I strongly recommend to ask for her for the Tour. The stop at the apartment on the main square is a nice plus given to the tour! A must do in Hamburg!!
Not too difficult tour, although it can be tiring for people who do not have regular physical activity. But certainly this is the very best way to get to know the city in the short time. Lisa is fabulous guide
It was a very interesting tour. We learned about the beginning of the Beatels. The guide Ian knew plenty of stories and anecdotes with which he gave us a glance behind the scenes and also lots of information about the very unique and anarchic hot spot around the famous Reeperbahn in St Pauli that one must have experienced. Thank you Ian for your enthusiastic way of conveying the message.
We ended up having a private tour since we were the only ones that booked that night, even though it was a Friday night. Our guide was incredible - she knew everything about everything and had knowledge and experience way more in depth than I ever expected coming into this, and she was absolutely hilarious to boot! She had recommendations for everything, never skipped a beat or a building of interest, and her stories she had of relevant previous experiences as a guide in this area were both incredibly informative beyond what you'd normally ever get to hear and incredibly interesting to listen to. Could not recommend this more. If you do only one tour in Hamburg, make it this one!!
We had a wonderful and exciting tour of the Reeperbahn. It was a great mix of history, current conditions and also a little bit of the daily St. Pauli gossip. We had fun and enjoyed it. We can recommend the tour, especially for english speaking people. It is a great way to discover Hamburg and his famous red light district. Thank you and keep going! :)
