What to Expect
Explore the famous sites of Luxor on a full-day tour from the Red Sea resort of Sahl Hasheesh. Learn the history of Ancient Egypt in legendary locations, such as the Valley of the Kings and Karnak Temple.
En route you will pass some of the Upper-Egyptian towns and villages of the River Nile, providing great impressions of the Egyptian landscape. Stop to admire the giant statues of the 3,400-year-old Colossi of Memnon depicting the pharaoh Amenhotep III.
After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to the Temple of Karnak on the East Bank of the Nile. Built more than 2,000 years ago, the complex of temples was dedicated to the Theben Triad and remains in remarkable condition. As you explore, imagine life in the days of the Middle Kingdom.
You will have plenty of time to form an impression of how the immense pylon (gateway) was built, and to walk the avenue of the ram-headed criosphinxes. Admire ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and paintings, soak up the peace of the Sacred Lake of Precinct of Amun-Re, and walk among the immense columns of the Great Hypostyle Hall.
