Uncover the essence of Pernambuco's folk traditions with this full-day excursion to the regional market town of Caruaru. Browse through the handicrafts at Feira de Caruaru, learn about the legacy left by legendary folk artist Mestre Vitalino, and take your seat at the world's largest open-air theater.
The tour will begin in Recife where you will be collected from you hotel and driven the 130km to the bustling town of Caruaru. First stop is the Caruaru market, Brazil's largest street market, which boasts an huge array of traditional handicrafts from the Agreste Highlands. Next you will visit Alto do Moura, recognized by UNESCO as the largest center for figurative arts in the Americas.
Last but certainly not least you will be taken to the city of Brejo da Madre de Deus, home to the almighty Nova Jerusalém open-air theater. Every Easter, the theater hosts an outdoor Passion of Christ performance which tells the history of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. Finally, you will enjoy a delicious dinner on the stage of the Last Supper.
