What to Expect
The Amazon is a rainforest of unique beauty, and hosts an incredible diversity of plant and animal species, beyond comparison to any other environment in the world. Discover the wonders of the Cuyabeno Reserve on a 4 or 5 day tour.

You’ll be amazed as you walk through the jungle, where around 400 species of plants have been identified in 1 acre alone, and magnificently colored birds, of which there are 500 species, fly overhead.

Accommodation is available in a variety of Cuyabeno Reserve eco-lodges, all of which are equipped with a private bathroom and offer hot and cold water. Electricity for recharging electronic devices is generated by eco-friendly solar panels and is accessible in the common areas. In addition to these budget lodges, more luxurious accommodations are also available.

To get to the meeting point in Lago Agrio you can take a bus or a plane. The bus ride is approximately 8 hours and the flight duration is 30 minutes. Trans Esmeraldas provides bus service departing at 22:00 and 23:00 from the station at 9 de Octubre and Avenida Colon in Quito. TAME provides air service from Quito to Lago Agrio, departing Quito at 08:30, and arriving Lago Agrio at 09:00. The flight costs USD 160 for the round trip.

The tour begins at 09:00 on Mondays for 4 or 5 day tours, on Tuesdays for 4-day tours, on Thursdays for 5-day tours, and on Fridays for 4-day tours.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Quito – Lago Agrio – El Puente
Following either a flight or a bus transfer from Quito, you’ll meet your guide at the Hotel D`Mario at 08:30. If you’re arriving by plane you’ll be picked up at the airport and then head by private bus to El Puente, the entrance to the Cuyabeno Reserve. From El Puente you’ll take a canoe trip down the Cuyabeno River to the lodge. Enjoy an exciting nocturnal adventure followed by dinner and a talk on the animals and the environment of the jungle.

Day 2: Laguna Grande
After breakfast, you’ll trek into the primary rainforest to learn about medicinal plants and the biological flora and fauna. After lunch, you can relax by the river or enjoy a siesta in a hammock. Afternoon activities include piranha fishing, swimming in the lagoon, and caiman spotting. In the evening you’ll enjoy a fabulous sunset and a delicious meal.

Day 3: Cuyabeno River
Today you’ll hike in a different part of the forest. This includes the opportunity to see the biggest trees in the Amazon rainforest and different ecosystems. Visit an indigenous community, where your naturalist guide will explain the culture and traditions of the native people. You’ll help prepare traditional food, visit the local shaman, and enjoy lunch. End the day with a beautiful sunset at the lagoon and take the opportunity to spot more wildlife before dinner.

Day 4: El Puente – Lago Agrio – Quito
Watch birds and other wildlife in the tranquility of the early morning. After seeing the sun rise over the jungle canopy you’ll have breakfast. Travel up the Cuyabeno River to El Puente, taking a last look at the jungle flora and fauna. You’ll arrive in Lago Agrio at around 14:00 for your onward journey to Quito.

Day 5
