Navarino Bay: Sea Kayaking with Lunch

Navarino Bay: Sea Kayaking with Lunch

Navarino Bay lies in front of the town of Pylos. It is a natural harbor where the island of Sphacteria stands as a wave breaker, protecting the bay from winds of the open Ionian Sea. The bay offers ideal conditions for Sea Kayaking trips, especially for beginners. The bay itself is a place of incredible natural beauty, with an impressive landscape, warm, crystal clear, waters and golden sandy beaches where sea turtles often return to lay their eggs. Sea kayaking here is a must definitely do without a doubt. Meet your guides at Divari beach just a few kilometers away from the charming village of Gialova. Your guide will brief you on paddling techniques, safety measures, and equipment. Soon we shall hop on our kayaks for a trip around the Navarino bay like never before. Heading west we paddle towards Sfaktiria, the island located at the west side of the bay. Here, we jump out of our kayaks, stretch our legs and walk to the island’s viewpoint for taking pictures of an idyllic landscape and for story-telling. A few minutes later we shall make a stop at a secluded beach for swimming and snorkeling, and why not some cliff diving for those who feel more adventurous. Here we shall also taste our homemade picnic of local delicacies and relax under the sun. After this energy pumped stop, we will paddle back to the starting point to end an amazing day in the tranquility of Navarino Bay.

My husband and I had one of the most wonderful experiences on our Kalamata food tour with Sophia. Sophia was an incredible host filled with great love and enthusiasm for the food, the people, and the history of Kalamata. Our tour allowed us the opportunity to experience Kalamata in a very special way. Sophia shared all about the cultural history and traditions of the region. We also enjoyed seeing a local artist’s work displayed throughout the city on our tour. Sophia has a generous spirit and a true love for what she does. The people we met along the way were kind and generous of their time. We came away with the feeling that we have made some great friends in Kalamata. Sophia took interest in our trip through Greece and gave useful advice and made some helpful suggestions. Finally, I should share that I made mention that it was my husband’s birthday in a few days. Sophia called ahead to the bakery we were going to visit to get a special treat with a candle. This is a must! 😊

The food tour was overall an amazing experience and informative of the foods in Kalamata. We met Sofia at the church, visited many local shops for tastings, learned about the Greek culture and by the end, we could barely move because we were so full. This was a great way to end our stay in kalamata but I wish we could have done it at the beginning so we could enjoy all the things we learned during our stay. Thank you again Sofia for the great experience.

Many thanks to Dora for a fantastic tour packed with generous portions, fun stops at lots of local shops & the market, and great conversation about local cuisine, customs, and history. We really enjoyed the experience and the effort Dora and the shop owners put in to make us feel welcome, and we highly recommend the tour as a fun way to get a taste of Kalamata culture.

You can feel that our guide Sofia loves her job and her country and is proud of it. We were introduced to many different flavors of Greece. Sofia not only conducted the tour nicely, but also gave advice on how to spend time in Kalamata. I have been on many food tours, and this was one of the most heartfelt.

Sofia was amazing!! Sofia was very knowledgeable about Kalamata itself as a native of the city. We were able to learn a lot about the city itself as well as taste some amazing foods. The food hall was a blast!! This is a tour that should not be missed. -Geoffrey
