Cross Pehoé Lake in a boat to reach Paine Refuge where you’ll start the trek. After 3.5 hours of trekking, arrive at a viewpoint where you can look out over the colossal Grey Glacier emerging from the Southern Ice Field. Hike around a small lagoon and gaze at the icebergs floating off the shore of Grey Lake Beach. Continue your ascent over flat terrain dotted with lenga trees until reaching an altitude of 1,480 feet above sea level. Make a light 15-minute descent to reach Grey Refuge where the best view on the glacier awaits. Learn about the vegetation you encounter on the way.
