What to Expect
Escape the hustle and bustle of central Prague on a full-day tour of Central Bohemia, departing the city center at approximately 08:45 for a 1-hour drive to Lány, the official summer residence of the Czech Republic president.
Walk in the gardens of the chateau, founded in 1392 and extensively restored between 1902 and 1903. Lány was chosen as the summer residency of the new head of state of Czechoslovakia in 1921 for its hunting conditions. Marvel at the beauty of the surrounding forests of Křivoklát, and learn about some of the castle's famous residents and visitors. Visit the sports car museum to see vintage vehicles, such as the F1 car driven by the Czech driver Tomas Enge.
After lunch in a typical Czech restaurant, go to the Railroad Museum in Lužná to explore the history of the railways in the region, and see exhibits from local trains of the 19th century to steam powered machines of the 20th century.
Next, look at the ruins of a medieval castle in the tiny village of Krakovec. End with a visit to the royal brewery in Krušovice, established in 1581 and contracted to provide beer to the Kings of Hungary and Bohemia in 1583. Taste some of the brewery’s produce, before returning to Prague for around 19:00.
