This full-day tour takes you from Porto to Viana do Castelo and Barcelos. Discover local handicraft tradition, enjoy a tasty lunch, see the work of local artisans, and continue to Fão City, where you will enjoy "clarinhas", a local pastry.
What to Expect
Your 7-hours tour leaves in the morning from Porto to Viana do Castelo. After arriving at Viana do Castelo, a city with characteristics of Minho with the magnificent surrounding landscape of sea, you'll visit the Costume Museum, a collection of traditions that characterize the entire northern region of Portugal.
After the museum visit and a free walk in the centre, the group re-enters the van towards one of the most beautiful places in Portugal: the Mountain of Santa Luzia, where the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located. This site stands not only for the beauty of the Basilica but also for the phenomenal view of the city and the sea.
After visiting Santa Luzia you'll relax at a local restaurant where the specialty is grilled fresh fish – bream, bass, sardine – served with potatoes, vegetables ,and olive oil. After lunch the tour continues until you get to the second spot of this tour: Barcelos.
Barcelos is the Portuguese capital of handicraft, where the Portuguese rooster legend was born and where you can closely observe the manufacture of handicrafts. There are many dozens of artisans who make Barcelos a completely live museum of Portuguese handicrafts and who are waiting to show their pieces to visitors.
After arriving in Barcelos, the group visits a local artisan who will show you various different handicrafts in detail: figurines, the pottery, basketry, and wood works. After this lesson in craftsmanship and craftsmen, the group returns to the Barcelos city center.
Afterwards the group jumps back into the van for the last part of the tour. You'll leave Barcelos and head towards Fão, a town known for its “clarinhas”, a traditional sweet pastry from this region. You'll stop for sightseeing in this region, visit the traditional streets of the village and taste this special sweet with local coffee.
You'll return to Porto feeling sweeter than ever !
