What to Expect
Be picked up from your hotel at 9:30 and pay a visit to the Quinta de Villar D’Allen. Classified as property of public interest, Villar d'Allen Estate is a rare survivor of the recreation farms that in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries surrounded the city of Porto. Acquired by an English merchant, John Allen, in 1839, to the Simões family, it features a building of eclectic architecture, typical of the Romantic period of the nineteenth century. The Villar d'Allen estate maintains a formal garden "à la française" created by the Simões family in 1780, the "parterre gardenesque" designed by John Allen in 1839, and the romantic gardens with lakes, streams and artificial waterfalls and a wide variety of exotic plants, created in 1860 by Alfred Allen. There are some marking places with interesting decorative sculptures by Nicolau Nasoni. It also has a nursery of ornamental outdoor plants which sell to the general public.

At 12:30 you'll lunch at the Serralves Museum before visiting it. Serralves Park spans 18 hectares and is constituted of a wide variety of magnificent, harmoniously interconnected spaces: formal gardens, woodlands and a traditional farm. Designed by the architect Jacques Greber in the 1930s, it constitutes a singular reference within Portugal’s landscape heritage. A visit to the park constitutes a privileged opportunity to come into contact with nature and appreciate the wide diversity of trees and shrubs, constituted by roughly 200 species and a variety of autochthonous and ornamental exotic plants. In addition, the gardens and the park are also a museum setting: visitors to the park will encounter sculptures from the Serralves Collection that are permanently on display.

At 16:30 you'll visit the Passeio Alegre Gardens. To complete the visit, you'll contemplate the place where the river flows into the sea (Foz). By visiting this charming garden, you will have the opportunity to see the plants that are well adapted to the sea proximity. The garden was built in the late nineteenth century, benefiting from the participation of Emíle David who worked on its landscaping. Lined by a Palm Grove, it houses a variety of architectural features of great value: a granite fountain to the west, from the former St. Francisco Convent, two Nasoni obelisks, from Quinta da Prelada and a small romantic "chalet", which was built in 1874 before the completion of the Garden. The miniature golf course is a main attraction of the garden, and is considered one of the best in the world. Philharmonic concerts are occasionally held in the bandstand. Lastly you'll see the public bathroom which was built in 1910 and is decorated with Art Nouveau tiles and with English classic bathroom furniture. At 18:00 you'll walk to the Oporto Café Restaurant, where you can relax and contemplate the sea and the sunset, drinking a glass of wine or a cup of tea and tasting the delicious scones. You'll end your tour at 19:00.
