What to Expect
The Minho River that separates Portugal from Spain is also the name of this green and splendid region, full of charm and tradition. The supposed birthplace of Portugal is the city of Guimarães where you can visit the castle which, according to legend, saw the birth of the first king of Portugal; the chapel where he was baptized and also nearby is the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança.
Guimarães, considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001, is an excellent example of the transformation of a medieval village in the modern city, keeping it's own nature with some of the walls that protect the city.
On the way to Braga you will have the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and admire the vineyards planted on fences where they grow the grapes used for the production of white wine. On the hillside stands the imposing staircase of the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, whose way of the cross leads us between chapels and fountains surrounded by the beautiful gardens where nature and spirituality engage.
At the bottom you will see the city of Braga, a city of Romans and Archbishops. Discover the cathedral and the old town with it's terraces.
