Full description

Enjoy the convenience of being picked up in an 8-seat minivan from your accommodation in Porto before exploring the stunning Douro Valley. Visit local wineries, savor wines and delicacies, learning about the wine making process, before cruising down the Douro River on a river cruise.

Begin your tour with a visit to the Croft Vineyards and learn about the entire winemaking process from your guide. End your visit with a port wine tasting accompanied by a careful selection of Portuguese cheeses. Then head towards the village of Pinhão, where you will embark on a 1-hour boat trip with delicacies onboard. Relax as you float down the calm waters of the Douro River and admire the landscape of the valley. Afterward, sit down for lunch in a typical Portuguese restaurant. Choose between meat, fish, and vegetarian menus. After lunch, visit the winery of a small table wine producer. Learn about the differences between premium wines, and the techniques used to produce them during a private guided tour. End your visit with a tasting of olive oils made by the same producer. Just wonderful! I took the tour with Márcio as a guide, the pick up at the hotel was punctual and he explained to us in general about the wines. My group went to 3 wineries, each one nicer than the next. The first was Quinta da Roeda, where we had a small tour of the winery and a tasting of 3 Port wines accompanied by cheese and toast. The second was Casa dos Barros, where we had lunch as a group and enjoyed two wines, one red and one white. Although lunch is not super tasty, the wines are amazing and so is the view. The last one was Quinta dos Castelares, where we had a small tour of the wine barrels and tasted 2 white wines, 1 rosé accompanied by bread with olive oil, 2 reds accompanied by honey and chocolate. The view of the Douro Valley is unbelievable, it looks like something out of a movie, so in my opinion this little trip is really worth it.

The ride in the 9er van was very entertaining with Tiago, who picked us up fresh, friendly and on time. He informed us about all the details and with many background facts about the region, wine, food and culture. All stops were well chosen and beautifully timed. The Duoro boat trip with one hour was enough for us.

I’ve done a few different group tours on this trip (including walking, boat, cycling, etc.). They were good but this was at a whole new level. Marcio was a superb guide - knowledgable, friendly and helpful. He did a fantastic job of getting our group talking to each other. All three winery visits were great (especially the final one) and the boat trip was lovely too. I highly recommend booking this!
