Bogotá´s Barrios: El Paraíso Favela Tour with Cable Car

Bogotá´s Barrios: El Paraíso Favela Tour with Cable Car

Go on a Small or private Group* guided walking tour through Bogotá’s El Paraíso favela district. Hop on a cable car, meet with community leaders, learn about the local life, and see technicolor graffiti-filled walls. Start your journey with either hotel pickup, or transfer from the meeting point (MUSEO DEL ORO), accompanied by your guide. Arrive at the cable car station and begin your ride up the hill to El Paraiso. Takin in the panoramic views as your soar over the city. Gaze down at the colorful houses, and get a bird's eye view of the daily life of the residents. After your ascent, head off on a walking tour with your local guide to get a feel for the neighborhood. Wander the bustling avenues, spotting street art among the neon-painted houses and narrow boulevards. Meet local community leaders in charge of local residents and learn about the positive changes that are being put into place to help revitalize this vibrant, yet underserved district. Continue to the best spot for panoramic views over the entire city, then try a traditional Colombian snack to get a feel for local culinary culture. Ciudad Bolívar & Paraíso Transmicable Tour

Ciudad Bolívar & Paraíso Transmicable Tour

This is definitely one of the most brand new and original tour experiences in Bogotá that you can visit nowadays by Transmicable (cable car)! We will go to the Paraíso neighborhood in Ciudad Bolívar, an area of the city that is working hard to be the new scene for local inclusive social tourism. We will start at Portal Tunal to live the “Transmicable Experience”, a mobility solution for the habitants of the area and a new opportunity to discover a magical artistic and colorful territory constructed by local talent. As a social tour we involved local guys who believe in tourism as a tool of transformation. The local guide, the break dancer, the mom who prepares the snacks, the local artist who does the souvenirs, are part of the community that along this beautiful process have learnt about how to share the valuable things they are and have among a hostile panorama surrounded by social and economical conflicts. We have developed a walking tour in three areas of Paraíso: “el mirador”, an amazing viewpoint of Bogotá from the south-west side; “Parque Illimani”, a real social infrastructure with parks and soccer fields, and “La Serpiente”, a colorful 120 steps stair to appreciate the size of Ciudad Bolívar, plus the “huerta”, a vegetable garden promoted by local families. Let’s explore a new local district of Bogotá that shares street art, music, nature and talent in one real and unique experience done by local people. ¡Vamos a Ciudad Bolívar!

We were accompanied from the beginning by the guide who already had the cable car and car transportation planned. It gave us the option of visiting a more isolated community, in addition to Favela Paraíso, which we accepted. We know a reality beyond tourism, with a growing association to support local children in pursuing education. The local guide (John) was very knowledgeable about all the places we visited and they offered us excellent empanadas in a local bar. The views from the viewpoint and the cable car are fantastic. Getting to know the local community was also great. I recommend!

Tour guide David and driver Jairo were a great team. David is very knowledgeable about Colombia's history and able to really make the tour enjoyable by tying the loose ends and connecting the dots. David also has great contact within the El Paraiso area and was able to arrange for a super private tour into a township which is very eye opening but yet at same time exhilarating to experience. Great tour in an up and coming area with a wonderful host.

We went up the hill, to the barrio and then we met the local Jon. This is a place you cannot go alone. Jon treated us the best, he presented us the way of life there, the best places, his story, the barrios's history and he took care of us the best way. I totally recommend this tour, in order to see a local way of life away from the touristsic industry. do not forget to play tejo with the locals there too!

The tour gives insight into the daily reality of people taking their lifes into their own hands, making the best of it. David is a dedicated guide, very flexible and communicative. He proposes and asks for suggestions. A brilliant source for what you want to know about Bogota and Colombia and he shows impressive places and initiatives you won't find on your own.

Great tour in El Paraiso and great guide who make sure everyone is organised and safe. The trip felt safe and really inspiring and instructive, definitely recommend !
