Enjoy a safari tour that takes you by 4WD to Lagoa do Fogo on the island of São Miguel. Explore the central massif, created by the “fire” volcano, following tracks through a special conservation area. Marvel at the waterfalls and the views of the sea.
What to Expect
Explore the central massif of the Serra de Água de Pau, built by the Fire volcano. It’s here you’ll find the second-largest lake on the island, Lagoa do Fogo, or Fire Lake. Surrounded by endemic vegetation, it has been classified by the EC as a Special Conservation Area and a part of the Natura 2000 network.
Take a dirt trail in to Ribeira Grande city. From here you’ll have views of the sea and the northern coast of the island. Continue on a dirt trail along the coast for one more stop - the belvedere of Santa Iria where you can contemplate the immensity of the sea and the nort coast of the island.
Then we will go to parish São Brás to have lunch at a restaurant with a typical Azorean food.
On the north coast, is located Gorreana, the only tea plantation in Europe, where the clay soil and acid offers a very pleasant aftertaste to this very popular plant.
Climbing to 898 meters above sea level we have Monte Escuro mountain and its steep slopes covered by the Macaronesian flora.
Next stop will be at Caldeiras a small steam vents complex near to Ribeira Grande, the second city of the island named the island home due the beautifull architecture and narrow streets.
