The Circumvesuviana departs on the Naples-Sorrento train line every half hour and takes 30-40 minutes to arrive at Pompeii-Scavi - Villa dei Misteri station. The SITA bus operates Monday to Saturday only. It leaves from the Port of Naples and Naples Central Station and stops at Piazza Esedra in Pompeii (entrance to the site from here is at Porta Marina). If you're traveling by car, take the A3 highway (autostrada).
In southern Italy, spring and fall offer pleasant temperatures, while summer is quite toasty. Pompeii isn't small in area, and you should expect to spend a minimum of 2-3 hours exploring. It's best to bring a bottle of water, and don't forget to wear proper shoes and sunblock.
Absolutely, amazing day trip, so great our guides were very helpful and informative, also the driver was great through the city of Rome and the surrounding area. Pizza was so delicious and quick as well, it was an all around amazing trip and we would recommend anyone wanting to go to Pompeii to book this day trip. The only issue we had was the short time to climb mount Vesuvius, we both felt if we had some more time we could have enjoyed the check points and view instead of rushing back down again, but maybe that is out of their control. Other than that an overall get experience! 10 out of 10 would recommend!
Although we arrived at the meeting point in good time, because there were so many other groups in the area it was very difficult to find our guide which was quite stressful. Other members of the group had the same problem. This caused quite a long delay and this could have been avoided if the guide had identified herself more clearly. Once we got going we enjoyed the tour and our guide clearly knew her stuff and was happy to answer questions. The group was perhaps a little too large and at times when we were spread out, it was difficult to hear what she was saying because she was out of range of the headset.
I cannot fault this tour. The lady guide was so hospitable and made the tour very interesting, and the use of a headset ensured we could always hear her, as it was crowded. Also having the entry ticket included in the price, saved a lot of queuing to enter the site. I would highly recommend this tour & company.
The Pompeii archeological site was much larger than I expected, and our archeologist guide provided very interesting information and history. Without his explanations, it would have been very difficult to understand how life existed in this city.
Really enjoyed the day. Pompeii was great as was Vesuvius & had a nice pizza for lunch as well. It’s really easy having someone who knows where to go, liaising with the guide at Pompeii & arranging pickup/drop of times. Well worth the cost.
