Poble Espanyol's Best Picnic Spots and Restaurants

The Poble Espanyol is a one-of-a-kind museum on Barcelona's famed Montjuic hill: made up of 117 buildings, the "museum" is actually a full-sized Iberian village. Filled with great spots to indulge in the local gastronomy, here are our recommendations!

Tapes Tapas

Hidden away, this gem of a restaurant is absolutely worth seeking out. Tapes Tapas is one of those rare spots where you can enjoy exquisite tapas without breaking the bank.

El Tablao de Carmen

The famous El Tablao de Carmen hosts some of the most amazing flamenco shows in Barcelona. Insider's tip: book a table downstairs, you'll have a much better view of the dancers!

La Font de Prades

Looking for a no-frills yet delicious traditional meal at a reasonable price? Then La Font de Prades is the place for you. The charming outside area is ideal for balmy evenings.

Picnic Area

At the top of the village, there's a large and beautiful picnic area, offering an idyllic spot for families to enjoy an open-air meal in the shade of the pine trees.

Picnic in the plaza

Picnics are allowed throughout the village, so you can also enjoy a snack in one of the many picturesque squares, such as the large Plaza Mayor or the quaint Plaza de la Fuente.

Poble Espanyol: Our Tips

Best period to visit

Though a visit to the Poble Espanyol is delightful on any sunny day, it's especially worth it during the summer months thanks to the many outdoor concerts and events. The outdoor cinema is also open in the summer – the perfect cap to a day of walking and discovery.

Artisans at work

Make sure to check out the 40 or so artisans throughout the village, many of whom will exhibit their craft for your enjoyment. The glass blower is particularly popular.

fantastic, hassel free and good value for money

Really enjoyed Barcelona, it was our first visit and the 2 day bus tour made getting around much easier. We managed to see everything we wanted to.

This was great, we stayed on the bus for the full 2 hours

We enjoyed our bus trips (2 Lines) and got an idea of where we would like to go when the trip finished. We were able to work out how far things we wanted to see would take to get to from the names on the maps. The only thing we were not happy with was that the stop for the Gaudi park was a very long walk away from the bus stop designated for the Park, and all up hill, perhaps there is an easier way to get to the park that we don't know of.
