Top Tours & Activities in Playa del Carmen
Located on the Caribbean Sea is the balneario city of Playa del Carmen. Just south of Cancun, and a ferry ride from Cozumel, this resort town has become known for turquoise waters, miles of white-sand beaches and no crowds. With Mayan ruins to explore, jungles to hike through, snorkeling in crystal clear water and zipping over jungle canopies, it is no wonder that this resort town has become such a prime destination in Mexico.
Adventurers will love exploring the pre-Columbian ancient ruins of Chichen Itza. Listed as one of the 7 Modern Wonders of the World, this archeological site contains stone buildings, platforms, temples, courts, and pyramids. Among other things, visitors can see a sacred cenote and the Pyramid of Kukulcan. More Mayan history can be seen at the Tulum Ruins, a walled fortress, which overlooks the Caribbean.
Water enthusiasts will love a day at Xel-Ha Eco Waterpark. See rays and Angel fish up close by snorkeling in clear blue waters, experience the thrill of cliff diving or swim with the dolphins. More activities include scuba diving, kayaking and experiencing the underwater breathing bubble.
More attractions can be found any of the beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya, soaring high above trees at the Selvatica Extreme Zipline Adventure and experiencing the vibrant nightlife that Playa del Carmen is famous for.
What People Are Saying About Playa del Carmen
I had the best guides out of all the tours that I went on in Mexico. They showed such a passion for the environment, the people and the wildlife. I can't say enough.....I will write a review on trip advisor and give the highest praise....I will be back and consider other tours from Get Your Guide in the future!
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. And I would highly recommend it to everyone! Our guide Carlos Solis was authentic and professional. His knowledge of Tulum was inspiring. His Mayan background made the stories poignant. Then at the Ecological Park we had fun that exceeded my expectations. As the name implies, it is a natural preserve. So it was the real deal. There were many cenotes and a beautiful small lake where we zip lined through natures beauty. And lunch was prepared by some of the Mayan people living in the park. You could not ask for a more authentic (non commercial) tour. Thanks to our driver Oscar whose quiet and steady driving got us home safely. And thank you to Carlos. It was an honor to meet you.
The day didn't start well, we were informed via email we would be picked up between 7 - 8am. We were extremely disappointed when we called at 8.05 and discovered it had been changed to 8:40 and we hadn't been informed. It ended up though that the day was so fantastic we forget all about the late pick up. Rios our guide was so positive and energetic, he really helped make our day unforgettable. Swimming in underground Cenotes, zip lining above the trees, rappelling into water, a tour of Tulum and the most beautiful beach I've ever been to (even if it was very busy) helped make this a magnificent day. I only wish I could zip-line into water more often, it was incredibly fun! The only other niggle is the prices of pictures they took of you on the day, they were quite extortionate. But other than that this day really does have everything, I would recommend it thoroughly to anyone and everyone, it’s well worth doing! Just make sure you check your pick up time.
We LOVED snorkeling at Xel-Ha! Felt like Jack Cousteau exploring all the hidden areas along the "Lazy River". Most people just floated down, but we delighted in the caves and inlets. Could not believe the buffets - some of the most extensive I've ever seen, and the food was good too! The only difficulty we had was that the ticket-taker at Xel-Ha wasn't familiar with the fact that you could have a 'mobile pass' on your phone. She had to get the manager, and they had me forward the email from "get your guide" to them, so they could print it out.
If you are. In playa del carmen as couple or group, book this barcrawl! On your own you will never find all the fun places on your own. Definitely worth every dollar, euro or peso...
