Piazza Anfiteatro, Italy: Our most recommended tours and activities
1. From Rome: Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius Volcano Full-Day Trip
Travel from Rome to Pompeii in an air-conditioned private coach, accompanied all the way by your expert tour coordinator. Benefit from skip-the-line entry and enjoy a self-guided visit around the ancient city. Throughout the ruins, you’ll come across death casts: plaster recreations of unfortunate citizens preserved by the superheated volcanic ash. After visiting Pompeii, the coach will take you up the slope of Mt. Vesuvius (from April to mid-November), one of Europe’s few active volcanoes located in the Vesuvius National Park. From here, take a short hike up to the steaming crater for stunning views of Capri and Sorrento. During the winter season between November and March, Mt. Vesuvius is closed, so your tour will follow the coastline and take you to the city of Naples, where you can explore the iconic Castle Nuovo, the famous art deco Umberto I Gallery, or simply wander around th...
Well organized tour and well priced. My only recommendation is to allow more time for Mt. Vesuvius. Having only one hour to climb and descend was not enough time for us to fully aprreciate it.
2. Pompeii: Guided Tour with Skip-the-Line Entry
Skip the line and explore one of Europe's most important archeological sites together with a professional guide. Stroll through the ancient streets and learn about the daily life of those who lived in the ancient city prior to the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
See the buildings and structures that were essential to civic life in Roman times, such as the new Antiquarium, the Basilica, the Forum, the thermal baths, and the Theater. Observe what remains of commercial and residential neighborhoods including a bakery and typical housing blocks.
3. Pompeii & Virtual Museum Private 2-in-1 Kid's Tour
Take advantage of two private tours in one on this kid-approved exploration of Pompeii: tour the archeological site before going on a virtual tour of Pompeii's museum. See how the city was before and after being buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Enjoy skip-the-line access to the archaeological site, then start walking through nearly 2,000-year-old streets. Following your archaeologist guide, delve into the history of this Roman city with a kid-friendly approach. See highlights such as the House of the Vettii, Forum Baths, Temple of Jupiter, House of the Tragic Poet, Amphitheater of Pompeii, and more. At the end of the tour of the archeological site, take part in a unique virtual tour to discover how Pompeii was before the eruption of 79 A.D. Kids will receive some gadgets at the end of the tour.
4. Pompeii Excavations: Private Full-Day Tour from Naples
Begin the tour at the Naples pier at 08:00 and head directly in your private car to explore the archeological excavations of the fascinating city of Pompeii. Visit the well-preserved ruins of a classic Italian villa at the Villa of the Mysteries (Villa dei Misteri) and then continue to the striking 2nd-century House of the Faun (Casa del Fauno), one of the most luxurious aristocratic houses from the Roman republic, and a better reflection of this period than most archaeological evidence found even in Rome itself. Continue the tour with visits to the stunning ruins of the Porta Marina, the grand Piazza Anfiteatro, and the Villa of the Papyri. Wrap up the tour back in the center of Pompeii with some refreshments and shopping before returning to the ship for 13:00.
