Drive to the mysterious 12th-century temple complex of Beng Mealea by American A2 Jeep, visit the largest floating village in Cambodia, and explore Tonle Sap Lake by boat. Interact with the locals and learn about rural life in Cambodia.
What to Expect
Enjoy a full-day excursion to the mysterious 12th-century temple of Beng Mealea, on board a classic American A2 Jeep. Visit the largest floating village on Tonle Sap Lake, and experience countryside life on the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia.

Following a pick-up from your accommodation in Siem Reap, drive through the Cambodian outback for approximately 36 miles (60 kilometers) to the enigmatic 12th-century Beng Melea Temple, an Angkor-style temple heavily shrouded with vines, moss, and the roots of ancient trees. Part of the way to these “forgotten” temples is via red-colored clay paths, with thick green shrubs along both sides.

The impressive temple complex is primarly made from sandstone and contains carvings of Buddhist motifs, along with extensive carvings of scenes from Hindu mythology among the towers, courtyards, and piles of stones lying in heaps among the thick brush.

The jungle-like surroundings make your tour by classic America A2 Jeep especially atmospheric, as you continue through the forest to Kampong Kleang, the largest floating village in Cambodia. During the dry season, you will drive between the stilts of the houses, rising up to 33 feet (10 meters) into the air. In the wet season, the water level reaches its peak, and can rise up to 3-6.5 feet (1 or 2 meters) above the building floors.

On these days you will climb down from the Jeeps and travel by boat through the village to meet and chat with the locals. Learn about the unique lifestyle of Tonle Sap Lake’s residents, before driving back to Siem Reap along dirt roads, passing small characterful villages along the way.
