This was a really excellent day out. It was so well organised with great communication on meeting times and schedule. Plus it never felt rushed. Chi Chi was such a entertaining fun guide. Her enthusiasm and 'ooh la la' attitude was infectious and she gave some interesting background and history on the places we visited from the Petropolis palace to the former casino. Petropolis palace is an elegant residence set within a lovely old town, with all the old architecture it's a nice contrast to the modern bustling Rio. We had a buffet meal and it offered great choice of items to select and great value. We were given the option to explore the shops or go to the Beer factory. I chose the latter and it was a nice relaxing end to the day, with a few tastings included. Not forgetting a fabulous group of friendly people to spend the day with.
The trip was reasonably interesting and provided a day away from the bustle of Rio. The historical information about Brazil and “the Peters” - Peter I and Peter II was good. The city itself is bustling and pleasant. We were not very happy with the lunch buffet. Our guide Tanya was excellent - full of information and energy and a great storyteller. She did a remarkable job of keeping things moving despite giving commentary in three languages!
Unfortunately the weather was against us with rain and low cloud, which resulted in a late pickup and little sightseeing going up the hills and a late pick up from the last stop. However the best was made and the main purpose of the visit to Petropolis Palace museum was successful.
Despite COVID-related restrictions that did not allow us visit the interior of the Imperial Palace, Osleide, our guide, and the driver Antonio did an excellent job m. All went very well. Osleide was very instructive and helpful. Remarquable!
Our guide called Lady was very knowledgeable about the history of Petrópolis and the palace is beautifully maintained. The drive up the mountain to Petrópolis is spectacular and the scenery on that part of the trip is breathtaking.
