What to Expect
Chocolate was introduced to France in 1615 when Queen Anne of Austria brought it from Spain at the time of her marriage in Bayonne to King Louis XIII. The product in all its forms became custom in the kitchens of Versailles under Louis XIV, who popularised its consumption at court, mainly in the form of a drink of cocoa mixed with hot water. However the cocoa bean did not become popular until the 19th century when it appeared in the great kitchens during the industrial revolution. At the current time, Paris is one of the capitals of chocolate. The city also pioneered the launching of the Chocolate Fair in 1995 that every year brings together the best chocolate craftmasters.
This visit into the world of chocolate gives you the opportunity to discover a true initiation workshop for making - and above all sampling - this unique product. At the only establishment in France to specialize in chocolate workshops, the master chocolatier will explain and demonstrate his expertise right under your eyes so you can share his passion for chocolate. This visit will be preceded by a walk around the old part of Bastille. Discover the last stones open to the four winds and take a look at the remains of the old defensive wall that used to delimit Paris.
This walk will take place in the Arsenal and Saint-Gervais quarters, returning to Bastille through the Places des Vosges. At the end, we will return to the artisan workshop by metro.
