Depart central Paris by luxury coach for the ride to Vaux le Vicomte, a charming town just 34 miles southeast of the French capital. Its star attraction is Vaux le Vicomte Castle, an impressive Baroque château that is said to have inspired the Palace of Versailles.
Hop off the coach and head inside for your guided tour. Discover the refinement and architectural richness of the château. This masterpiece of modernity and elegance was an inspiration to King Louis XIV in planning Versailles Palace.
When the guided visit is over, you’ll have a bit of time to explore the wonderful gardens. Then it will be time for a lunch break on your own at one of the nearby restaurants.
After lunch, head back to the coach for the hour-long drive to Fontainebleau. The afternoon will be dedicated to visiting spectacular Château de Fontainebleau, the favorite residence of French kings from Francis I to Napoleon III.
The UNESCO-listed Palace of Fontainebleau is known as a true jewel of Renaissance art, and is surrounded by 321 acres of gardens. Visit the château and explore the only royal castle that has been continuously inhabited for 7 centuries.
As you tour the interior, you’ll pass through numerous rooms, including the ballroom, the guard's room, the throne room, the council chamber, and Napoleon's apartments. Take some time to admire the gardens and the amazing horseshoe-shaped staircase at the entrance to the Château.
