Learn about the culture and lifestyle of the Embera, a semi-nomadic tribe of Panama. Take a canoe ride on the Chagres River, hike to a spectacular waterfall, and enjoy a dip in the waterfall pools. Have lunch and hear stories about Embera traditions.
What to Expect
Your full-day excursion begins with a comfortable chauffeured ride to the Chagres River where an Indian guide will paddle you through the rainforest in an authentic Embera canoe. The sights and sounds of the rainforest will take you back centuries in time.
At the end of the canoe ride, hike over somewhat challenging terrain along the river. You’ll be rewarded for this half hour of effort when you arrive at a majestic waterfall and natural springs. Enjoy some time in the refreshing water of the pools and falls.
Afterwards, you’ll continue on by canoe to the Embera village and be greeted with a traditional welcome of music and dance.
Enjoy a typical Indian lunch and listen to one of the Embera men speak about his culture, traditions, and lifestyle and how the Embera have remained unchanged over the years. A native woman will take the stage and explain how the women of the tribe make baskets.
Your day ends with traditional Embera dance and music as well as the opportunity to interact with the native people.

Know Before You Go
Be ready to get wet! Bring a swimming suit, towel, and water shoes. Do not bring open sandals or flip flops. The path could be slippery and they will be very difficult and dangerous to walk in. It’s a good idea to bring some dry clothes to change into afterwards.
