Full description
Explore Panama from the Caribbean to the Pacific, and hike in mountains and jungles. See abundant wildlife, take optional zip line tours across jungle canopies, ride horses down forest trails, and snorkel and dive in oceans and seas. The 8-day tour will give you a comprehensive introduction to the delights of Panama, visiting Panama City, the Panama Canal, Punta Culebra, Portobelo and much more. Day 1: Arrival in Panama City Arrive at Tocuman International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Panama City to prepare for the upcoming adventure. Day 2: Panama City Spend a full-day exploring fantastic Panama City, starting with an incredible view from atop Cerro Ancon. Head to Miraflores Locks and Museum on the Panama Canal, and follow the canal to Punta Culebra, where you might see sloths, iguanas and some of Panama’s marine life. Learn about the history of Panama as immense ships pass through the canal. Stop for lunch on the Amador Causeway, with fantastic views of the city skyline. Your final stop will be the Casco Viejo (Old Town) for a tour that will take you back in time. Day 3: Portobelo Adventure Snorkel in the Caribbean and zip line in the jungle. Discovered by Columbus, attacked by pirates, and gateway to one third of the world’s gold, Portobelo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has to be seen to be believed. Return to your hotel in Panama City for an overnight stay. Day 4: Monkey Island, Indian Village & Lake Gatun Eco Tour See several species of monkeys on Monkey Island in Lake Gatun, and meet the Emberá Indians at Indian Village. Then, head to the hills of Soberania to watch for more monkeys, sloths, harpy eagle and hundreds of bird species. Check into your hotel in El Valle for an overnight stay. Day 5: El Valle-Santa Catalina After a welcome night in El Valle, enjoy a hike, go for a horse or bike ride, visit the market and waterfalls, or just relax! After lunch, head to Santa Catalina in the Chiriqui Gulf for your overnight stay. Day 6: Santa Catalina/Coiba During your stay in Santa Catalina, you will have the option to visit Coiba, otherwise known as the poor man’s Galapagos, and the largest island in Central America. Although hard to reach, it is worth the effort once you have got there. Snorkel and dive in the Gulf of Chiriquí on Panama’s Pacific Coast. The island was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, and its pristine condition makes it an ideal wildlife reserve. Look out for whale sharks, rare scarlet macaw, howler monkey, Coiba agouti and spinetail. Other options include kayaking, fishing, surfing, or just relaxing on one of the world’s best surf beaches. Return to Santa Catalina for a second night’s stay. Day 7: Boquete Depart in the morning and drive to Boquete, nestled in the green mountain highlands on the border of Costa Rica. Known as the adventure capital of Panama, and home to some of the country’s best coffee, get a caffeine fix or trek through the back country trails of the Volcán Barú, the tallest mountain in Panama. En route to Boquete, stop in Caldera to visit some hot springs and soak in the therapeutic waters. Day 8: Boquete Enjoy a free day in Boquete, with a variety of options to keep you busy. You can take a tour of a coffee plantation, zip line over the forest canopy, hike to the continental divide, or visit the volcano. Rafting, kayaking, horseback riding and rock climbing are other options in this thrill seeker’s paradise. Depart for Panama City that night, or the next morning to catch your flight home.
