Discover one of Sicily's most historically influential city's on a half-day tour to Cefalù from Palermo. Visit Medieval places of interest including the ancient city gate – or Porta Pescara, and the Romanesque Cathedral of Cefalù, amongst other sights.
What to Expect
Depart from your Palermo hotel on a journey to the scenic coastal city of Cefalù, right in the center of Sicily's northern coast.
Though built upon Greek foundations, Cefalù was captured by the Normans in 1063 and completely transformed.
Built between the domineering rocky hillside and majestic white beach, meander through the old town's narrow streets, visiting a medieval wash-house and the Porta Pescara; the ancient city gate. On a clear day it's possible to see the Aeolian Islands from the harbor on the city's rocky coast. Then head to the magnificent Norman Cathedral, built in the Sicilian Romanesque style by order of Roger II.
After visiting the Cathedral, and before the return trip to Palermo, take the opportunity to shop for souvenirs or enjoy Sicily's legendary ice-cream, the invention of which is often attributed to Cefalù itself.
