What to Expect
Please note that every effort is made to provide the tour as described below, however the itinerary may change due to situation beyond our control.

If you measure Italy as a meeting of cultures that stretch back through the centuries then Palermo is its crowning glory. The city boasts a fabulous mix of decay and decadence and is a terrific spot, where artistic treasures emerge from the crumbling maze to catch your breath.

This full day private tour will give you a good overview of the city, once the grandest in all Europe, and take you to the magnificent golden mosaics of Monreale Cathedral and the Doric temple of Segesta.

You will be met at Palermo cruise terminal for the drive to Monreale, where the Arab-Norman art and architecture reached its pinnacle with the establishment of the Duomo (entrance fee not included).

Built in 1174 on the orders of King William II, the extraordinary interior is a carpet of rich, golden mosaics representing scenes from the Old and New Testaments. Many believe it to be the finest of all Norman monuments.

You will then visit Segesta, a major city of the Elymian people, one of the 3 indigenous peoples of Sicily. Vandals destroyed the city hundreds of years ago, but the ruins that remain include a well-preserved Doric temple and an amphitheater (entrance fee not included).

Back in Palermo you will explore the lively Capo Market, a large open-air street market that captures the flavor of Palermo's Saracen Arab past. The confusion of stalls wind toward the old gate of Porta Carini and what used to be the city wall.

Continue to Piazza Pretoria and Via Maqueda, where a quartet of 16th-Century baroque palaces left over from the heyday of Spanish rule converge at the “Four Corners.” Finally, you return to the port at the end of the day.
