What You'll Do
  • Discover Corleone, the town from The Godfather movies, and the anti-Mafia museum
  • Wander through the atmospheric streets of Palermo
Enjoy a full-day excursion to the tiny town of Corleone, a beautiful spot that is now infamous as the birthplace of many of the Mafia's godfathers. Then explore the bustling Sicilian capital of Palermo; your driver will take you all the city hotspots.
What to Expect
If you measure Italy as a meeting of cultures that stretch back through the centuries then Palermo is its crowning glory. The city, a fabulous mix of decay and decadence, is a terrific spot, where artistic treasures emerge from the crumbling maze to catch your breath.

This full day tour will give you a good overview of the city, once the grandest in all Europe, and take you to the dramatic town of Corleone, whose fame is anything but idyllic.

You will be met at Palermo cruise terminal for the drive to Corleone. From the 1960s the town became infamous for its Mafia connections, lending its name to some well-known clans who had their headquarters - the Clan dei Corleonesi – in the ancient town.
The name was later used as the adopted surname of the title character in Francis Ford Coppola's movie “The Godfather.” In the novel, Vito Andolini emigrates from the village and his last name is changed following a miscommunication at New York’s Ellis Island.
The town, set among rugged hills, has a typical Sicilian character and several historic buildings worth exploring, including the 14th-Century Chiesa Madre.

Later we will visit the CIDMA anti-mafia Museum (CIDMA fee: not included). CIDMA is an organization that collects all the documents and pictures of the most important mafia bloodsheds. It’s important to know that it is not recommended for families with young children (recommended for children over 10 years of age). This excursion depends on CIDMA availability

You will then drive back to Palermo to explore the lively Capo Market, a large open-air street bazaar that captures the flavor of Palermo's Saracen Arab past. The confusion of stalls wind their way toward the old gate of Porta Carini and what used to be the city wall.

Continue to Piazza Pretoria and Via Maqueda, where a quartet of 16th-Century baroque palaces left over from the heyday of Spanish rule converge at the “Four Corners.” Explore Palermo’s web of backstreets and soak up the dizzying atmosphere that feels part European and part Arabic with its array of smells, sights and sounds, before returning for your evening cruise ship activities.

Know Before You Go
We customized this excursion using a Driver-Escort. A Driver-Escort is a chauffeur specialized to drive you around our amazing island. Our Driver-Escort will take care to give adequate time at all stops and to accommodate special requests when possible, and will assure that your experience in Sicily will be both memorable and enjoyable.

The Driver-Escort is not a Licensed Tourist Guide (Licensed Tourist Guides are the only professionals - with a Regional license - permitted to conduct visits and tours in all sites and museums within a city) and he cannot accompany you inside the monuments because this is not allowed by Italian Rules.
