Some examples of these families include the Bardi, Altoviti, Ridolfi, Cavalcanti, and the Tornabuoni. This has been suggested as a reason for the rise of the Medici family. Continue your tour to the square of San Lorenzo Church, which was Florence’s cathedral until the 8th-century. Great way to see Florence and learn about the history of the city. Their was a race in town with lots of runners which made it difficult to get through the crowds in the beginning. The guide was great at keeping us together and safe. Highly recommend this tour.
