Malta: Mdina and Rabat Walking Tour with Catacombs

Malta: Mdina and Rabat Walking Tour with Catacombs

Mdina, once the capital city of Malta, has had many names throughout its history, but its medieval name describes it best: "Città Notabile" - the noble city. Built on a plateau in the center of the island, its baroque cathedral and magnificent bastions dominate the skyline. A stroll through its narrow streets, which have not changed much in the last 1,000 years, is a must for any visitor to Malta. The area occupied by Mdina has been inhabited since at least the Bronze Age. The Phoenicians and Romans established their own settlements here, but the modern name and layout of the city reflect Arab rule before the Normans firmly established it as the country's capital. Although the construction of Valletta lessened its importance, a strong earthquake in 1693 led to reconstruction and a revival of the city. Since that time, Mdina has changed very little. Walk past the most notable sites in Mdina, including Vilhena Palace, St. Agatha’s Chapel, the Banca Giuratale, the Mdina Cathedral, and much more. During this tour we will visit Rabat. While in Rabat we enter Wignacourt museum and visit: WW2 Shelters, Catacombs and St. Paul's Grotto. Entrance ticket included.

Our guide Dylan was so very knowledgeable & enthusiastic about Mdina & Rabat. Despite the blazing heat, Dylan had a consistent friendly smile as he talked with us. He had a number of special personal stories about the cities that he readily shared with us. These stories really enriched our overall experience. This is one of the only catacombs I have been to that have allowed photos inside so that is an extra bonus of this tour.

Our guide Matthew was really passionate about the history of his country. The tour had not only the historical build up of the cities, but we were also treated with great (fun) facts all around. The tour was at a relaxing pace and the guide was very mindfull of the warm weather.

Our guide Carl was very knowledgeable about history and managed to capture our interest throughout the visit. It was very interesting, as this type of visit clearly adds a lot to those who want to know a little more about the history and facts of each place.

Dylan was a great guide, always friendly, always smiling and so knowledgeable and helpful. Great overview about Mdinas history. It was hot but he made sure we always had some shade. Great tour, we had a great time. Thanks Dylan!

Fantastic and informative tour. Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable.
