Head to the Idro valley along a pleasant dirt path taking you to the St. Mauro Crypt, which was carved into the soft rock of Salento during the Byzantine period.
Continue to Casamassella, stopping at the Costantine Foundation, a center dedicated to organic farming and traditional loom weaving.
Giurdignano is the main megalithic site in Salento and the first evidence of human presence in the area. Your next stop will be Giuggianello for a visit to La Cutura botanical garden. Admire the hundreds of Mediterranean, tropical, and subtropical plants species, and the most unique collection of succulent plants in Europe.
Visit a bakery with a stone oven for a delicious lunch before cycling to Porto Badisco for a swim, weather permitting. It is also possible to rent a canoe.
You’ll continue cycling along the scenic coast road to Otranto. Stop at the fortified farmhouse in Cippano, see the Punta Palascìa lighthouse at the easternmost point of Italy, and take in the peculiar lake in a disused bauxite quarry.
You’ll return to Otranto in the late afternoon.
