Oslo: Private Walking Tour

Oslo: Private Walking Tour

Imagine a city founded by the mighty Vikings—not just fish-eaters and raiders, but people living life in the rugged north. Fast forward to the 1600s, and we meet King Christian IV, ruler of Denmark and Norway, a city-builder and fortress-reconstructor. After a devastating fire, the King made a bold choice: instead of rebuilding in the same spot, he moved the city. And what city is this? Oslo! Today, we’ll take you on a private walking tour to explore the vibrant capital as it stands now. Our journey begins at the Nobel Peace Center, where the stunning Aker Brygge offers beautiful views of Oslo Harbour and the fjord. Along the way, we’ll dive into the stories behind Oslo City Hall, home to the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, before heading to the city's heart. Here, we’ll pass by landmarks like The National Theatre, University Square, Karl Johans gate (Oslo’s main shopping street), and the Norwegian Parliament. What else comes to mind when you think of Oslo? Of course, no visit to Oslo is complete without seeing Akershus Fortress. And... wait, what’s that? An iceberg? Not quite! That’s the Oslo Opera House, with its bold, modern architecture standing out in a newly developed, contemporary area of the city. And just behind the Opera House, you'll find something surprising: urban farming! Oslo may be cold, but the city is alive with energy and innovation. Don’t take our word for it—climb to the top of the Opera House after the tour and experience the buzz of Oslo for yourself! If you’re looking for an introduction to Oslo but are short on time, this private walking tour is the way to go.

With a hint of sweetness, we head to Oslo Harbour for a taste of Norway’s beloved aquavit (akevitt) – two small shots of this potent, herb-infused spirit, known for its rich flavors and long-standing tradition. We continue through the impressive Oslo City Hall and along the bustling Karl Johans gate, passing the historic Parliament building. As evening falls, we arrive at a cozy restaurant where a delicious dinner awaits. I recommend this tour in German because it is the best way to understand the history and the highlights of the city Oslo. I was the only tourist for the tour so I learned really a lot about the city and all my questions are answered by the guide. We started in front of the university , walked towards the oldest part of the city and then we came back to the modern part again. We discussed the languages used in Norway. The relations with Denmark and Sweden. We talked about the three city halls of Oslo. We discovered how the city grows from the Viking time till nowadays. We talked about different districts of Oslo. After this tour I have a much better understanding of this city and it makes me want to come back again. :)

Great tour! Definitely recommend, including the Vigeland add on. Romy was very warm and knowledgeable of oslo’s history and rich art scene. Loved going through the artwork at City Hall. Given the time she’s spent living in other countries, she had some great perspectives on Norway’s culture vs other European cities. We also enjoyed a private tour, which is always the best way to learn about a city.

We had an excellent walking tour of Oslo with an expert guide, extremely knowledgeable on all subjects and was able to also all our questions. She spoke great English and was very personable.

A suitable selection of routes for 2 hours, entertainingly presented to men and women through a mix of historical and more current knowledge of the buildings and squares of the city center!

Great knowledge of the city, good culture, nice person and a good walk
