Travel around the world as you visit a fascinating neighborhood on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. You’ll hear stories of the millions of immigrants who settled here and taste delicious Chinese, Dutch, German, Italian, Jewish, and other immigrant dishes.
What to Expect
This 3-hour walking tour starts off at City Hall, where many immigrants become American citizens. Here, at the northern edge of the colonial city, you’ll enjoy a wonderful breakfast treat of Belgian waffles and begin your immigrant journey with the Dutch.
Make your way around the neighborhood on a loop route, visiting 100-year-old bakeries, churches, markets, and historic sites. Stroll the streets of little Italy, as Lucky Luciano might have a century ago. See synagogues and Jewish clothing stores. Dive into Latin culture at the Essex Street market and take in cultural sites such as the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and the African Burial Ground. You’ll end up in the colorful, teeming streets of Chinatown.
Along the way you’ll sink your teeth into amazing stories and amazing food. Knishes, tacos, dumplings, and more are all in store. Taste the culinary legacy left by those that have passed by Lady Liberty on their way to realize the American Dream.
