Full description
The beacon of Italian immigrants since the 1800s, New York City's Little Italy has always been a haven for these exiles. Through their stories of struggle and sacrifice, experience their renaissance and triumphs. Then go inside a favorite local pastry shop established in 1892 by an opera impresario. Marvel at the numerous offerings of authentic Italian delights. Wander into America's oldest cheese shop with a secret celebrity owner. Then it's on to Chinatown. Walk through the gateway of Chinatown onto its main street. Glimpse diners enjoying a Chinese brunch that had its roots from the Silk Road. It's a 2,000-year old tradition from the Han Dynasty being served in Chinatown's oldest restaurant. Savor the exotic treats of a Chinese bakery: from egg tarts to puff pastries and moon cakes to wife cakes. Hear the music of an iconic American composer that wrote songs for Bing Crosby, Kate Smith, and Judy Garland. See the saloon where he got his start as a singing waiter. Go by the birthplace of modern tattooing and hear its history.

This was a fun and informative tour with our guide (Andrew) offering a vast amount of knowledge on how these communities were formed, as well as how historic events helped shape them into what they are today. He showed us several points of interest and simply had an upbeat and fun personality, which only added to the experience.

Our guide was great! (Still trying to find his name. He was around 30-35 y/o, He grew up in the area, he’s part Italian, also part Cuban I think). He was extremely knowledgeable about history of the area, beginning from the initial settlers, various changes over time, ongoing through modern day events. He provided excellent visuals that showed the changes over time. Information about architecture was fascinating. Very informative about cultural issues, including food. He also treated everyone to Asian Dumplings that were fantastic. Highly recommend taking this tour!
