The driver Joe was excellent. The tour guide was mildly obnoxious and nonchalant of people of color on the bus as she spoke of Xavier University and history of New Orleans; such as the blues was a way for us to express the morning of the “junk” we were going through. She was also a distraction to the driver continuously getting up out of her seat for music for the ride back which at the time was not accessible because of the rural area we were in.
I appreciate the Whitney Plantation Tour because of its emphasis on slavery and telling the stories through the lives of the children of slavery. Cheryl our tour guide was great, she was a no nonsense kind of woman who knew her history and made the plantation come to life. It was a great educational experience.
The self guided feature was great and assisted me along this independent journey. The bus driver lacked clarity on pick up time when he initially announced it, and the seats were too cramped. But overall, a great experience! I’d recommend eating a full meal in preparation for this 5hr excursion.
The passes were easy to pick up on Canal Street. I went to each place the cards were scanned with no problem. Everyone was friendly, open, and very accommodating! One thing if you do the swamp tour, and want to go early in the morning call ahead. Reservations recommend there!
The museum is extraordinary and should not be missed. There are alot of newsreels, which helped realize the depth of pain our soldiers go through to keep our democracy. It brought that period to life.
