What to Expect
On this small group van tour, visit 3 Louisiana plantations on the eastbank of the Old Mississippi River Road. Narrated scenic drive along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain as our driver-guide prepares you for a pilgrimage back in time to the Antebellum South.

Guided tour of DESTREHAN PLANTATION where guides in period costumes bring to life the stories of generations who lived on and worked this land - both owners and slaves. They will share with you every detail of this mansion's history since 1787. Free time to walk around under a spectacular canopy of live oaks around the mansion and the slave quarters.

Arrive at SAN FRANCISCO PLANTATION, an 1856 gothic steamboat style mansion, guided tour of this authentically restored National Landmark. It features elaborate gingerbread work and flamboyant hand-painted ceilings earning her the title of 'the most opulent southern Plantation'. Your tour guide will lead you through the detailed lives of generations of Creole owners and their families, both their triumphs and their tragedies. After visiting the mansion, explore an original slave cabin and the old one- room schoolhouse.

A short ride upriver through sugar cane fields brings you to HOUMAS HOUSE PLANTATION where refreshing Mint juleps will be available for purchase.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch (included) served in 'Burnside Cafe", the grand dining hall at Houmas House Plantation.

River Road Houmas House Buffet Lunch Menu:

Caesar Salad
Fried Catfish
Grilled Chicken with Herb Cream Sauce
Crawfish Étouffée
Red Beans and Rice

After lunch, experience the southern splendor of this "Sugar Palace" when your tour Guide leads you into 16 rooms filled with period antiques and Louisiana artwork. Upon completion in 1840, Houmas House was the crown jewel of Louisiana's River Road, with its heroically-columned greek revival exterior, topped by a belvedere that surveyed the oak alley leading south to the sweeping bend in the River and miles and miles of cane fields to the north and east.

Enjoy the breeze off of the Mississippi River and stroll the grounds through the shadows of ancient oaks.
